With technology company experience spanning 15-person Silicon Valley startups to 150,000-person European multinationals, Ian brings a broad spectrum of experience to his advisory role with Different. Ian is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Oclaro (NASDAQ:OCLR), a member of the supervisory board of Telefónica Alpha, and an advisor to Silicon Valley startups.

Previously, he was global Chief Data Officer and a member of the Executive Committee of Telefónica Group, where he was responsible for a broad portfolio including data strategy, global R&D, and new product innovation for Telefónica’s 300M+ customers around the world. Prior to that, he was CEO (and later Chairman) of TokBox, a Sequoia Capital-funded Silicon Valley startup which introduced the first real-time video communications platform-as-a-service offering; TokBox was acquired by Telefónica. Ian has also been Senior Vice President, Products at MarkLogic, an XML content database system startup also funded by Sequoia Capital, and held multiple executive roles at CKS, USWeb/CKS and marchFirst, NASDAQ-traded professional services companies.

Ian started his career at Apple, first as a software engineer in the Advanced Technology Group, and later as an engineering manager for QuickTime VR.Ian is a holder of 9 US patents and has engineering and computer science degrees from the University of Toronto.
